CLIMATE CHANGE IS PLACING OUR FORESTS AT RISK

PLANT TREES: WITH BERGWALDPROJEKT E.V.

Get involved and become part of tree planting and peatland rewetting projects!

There is no doubt as to the growing frequency of extreme weather events here in Germany as a result of climate change. Our forests in particular are increasingly struggling to cope with the effects of storms, heavy rainfall and droughts. In order to meet these challenges head on, our forests will have to adapt to the changing climate conditions. Projects to protect, preserve and maintain the forest are an absolutely vital part of this process. The Bergwaldprojekt allows you to participate in this by purchasing nature premiums that guarantee the planting of trees.

Joining forces to protect our native forests and landscapes.

Fokus Zukunft is cooperating with Bergwaldprojekt e.V. to provide four projects currently for which you can purchase ‘nature premiums’ as a contribution to the protection and conservation of our native forests or to contribute to peatland rewetting.

The Bergwaldprojekt was established in 1993 and has been committed ever since to the protection of forests and species by organising necessary work in forests, moors and biotopes with the assistance of volunteers.

Among other things, the nature premiums are for native trees that volunteers from the Bergwaldprojekt plant during work assignments.

Every reforestation measure relies on your support! The Bergwaldprojekt has different aims, depending on the project you select. But they all have one thing in common: a commitment to protecting our biodiversity!

PLANT TREES NOW

HOW TO PLANT TREES WITH THE BERGWALDPROJEKT

It only takes a few simple steps to purchase a nature premium through us and use it to plant trees or for other worthy causes. To do this, first select your preferred project. We currently have the following projects in our portfolio:

Bergwaldprojekt in the Bavarian Alps

A native, stable and mixed forest has been placed under protection and will grow in the Lake Schliersee forest holding of the Bavarian State Forestry Administration. Fir, beech and larch trees are being planted and other forest management measures carried out to achieve this goal.

Bergwaldprojekt in the Oberallgäu

In the Nagelfluhkette Nature Park, as in many other regions of Germany, the focus is on forest reorganisation. In addition, hunting facilities and trails are being built and game fences are being blinded to prevent birds and other animals from getting caught in them.

Bergwaldprojekt in the Spessart region

Work in the Heigenbrücken forest holding is focused on converting the woodlands to accommodate a larger proportion of hardwood. Beech, oak and bird cherry, for example, are more suited to coping with the impacts of climate change than coniferous forests.

Bergwaldprojekt in Karlsruhe

In co-operation with the Karlsruhe City Forestry Office, various deciduous tree species are being planted in the Karlsruhe city forest as part of the Bergwald project, and individual protection is also being put in place.

PEATLAND REWETTING IN NORTHERN GERMANY

Aside from trees, peatlands have an excellent capacity to sequester large amounts of climate-damaging gases and are therefore particularly valuable from an ecological perspective. In our project portfolio, we are therefore happy to present the Bergwaldprojekt peatland rewetting project on the southern fringe of the North German Plain. The nature premium in this case is a corresponding area of peatland.
Peatlands can only function as CO₂ reservoirs if they are kept in a near-natural state. In this Bergwald project, volunteers erect wooden sheet piles and also fill sections of ditch to support the Diepholz Moor Depression by rewetting expanses of degraded peatland.

HOW YOU CAN GET INVOLVED – AND WHAT IT COSTS

You can obtain official offsetting of your CO₂ emissions by supporting international carbon offset projects. And by contributing to one of the Bergwaldprojekte outlined above, you can also help a worthy cause on the ground and assist in protecting our natural environment. Are you interested?

Fokus Zukunft will gladly take care of the whole process for you. Just tell us your preferred project and how much you would like to contribute. The Bergwaldprojekt can plant a tree or renaturalise a 3 m² expanse of peatland for as little as €5.00. This is just an indication – you can of course contribute as much or as little as you like to suit your individual budget.

We then send you a certificate that is issued in cooperation with Bergwaldprojekt e.V. confirming the number of native trees that were planted or the area of peatland that was renaturalised with your support.

Kindly take note that purchasing the nature premium does not constitute a certified offset for carbon emissions and instead counts as an additional contribution to protecting our local biodiversity. You can only obtain officially recognised offsetting for your unavoidable emissions by purchasing international carbon credits.
