CLIMATE SPONSORSHIP TO SUPPORT SUSTAINABLE FARMING

BUILD LOCAL HUMUS TO SEQUESTER CO₂ AND PROMOTE BIODIVERSITY

Become a climate sponsor as part of the ‘Klima-Landwirt’ initiative! Achieving the 1.5 degree target enshrined in the Paris Climate Agreement will not be possible without reducing CO₂ emissions. But it is equally important to sequester CO₂ that has already been released. Aside from forests, agricultural land around the world is considered to be the largest natural reservoir for CO₂.

Sustainable farming methods that promote the humus content in the soil play an important role in this context. Humus-optimised soils are valuable resources in many respects – for the climate, the environment and for farmers.

Intensive preliminary clarification with TU Munich during the start-up phase and a comprehensive feasibility study for humus build-up by Prof. Kurt-Jürgen Hülsbergen emphasise the long-term perspective of the system.

BENEFITS OF GOOD HUMUS MANAGEMENT

Positive CO-/NO effects

  • Carbon sequestration from the atmosphere
  • Reduced greenhouse gas emissions in the field
  • Lower emissions in upstream areas (decrease in mineral fertiliser use. Humus provides more nutrients)

Biodiversity and farming

  • More diverse life in and above the ground
  • Additional landscape elements create more diversity for flora and fauna

Water balance

  • Optimised nutrient and water balance in the soils
  • Groundwater build-up and improved water retention capacity in the fields
  • Reduction in drought damage
  • Lower erosion risk
  • Increased fertility for improved yields and conservation of natural spaces

THE KLIMA-LANDWIRT INITIATIVE CONCEPT

The initiative was first launched in 2021 at three project sites in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg. Its aims include the initiation of local offsetting measures for CO₂ sequestration in cooperation with partners and the achievement of improved biodiversity at local level.

The underlying idea: to encourage companies, institutes, organisations, municipalities or private individuals to become climate sponsors and therefore to provide farmers with financial compensation for the additional costs associated with protecting the soil, water and climate.

CONTACT ME TO BECOME A CLIMATE SPONSOR

You too can become a climate sponsor as a means of expressing your respect for the services that farmers provide to the community. From as little as one hectare of land, you will receive a sponsorship certificate from our cooperation partner NEXT Farming confirming your support. The contract period is always three years.

FOKUS ZUKUNFT IS ALREADY A CLIMATE SPONSOR

We sponsor 20 hectares of sustainable farmland in the Zollernalbkreis region and are delighted to contribute to the positive environmental effects of strengthening humus content in the regional soils.
Visit the NEXT Farming website for more information about the Klima-Landwirt initiative and our cooperation partners. We would gladly put you in touch if you are interested in becoming a sponsor.

LEARN MORE ABOUT CLIMATE SPONSORSHIPS

Please note that at present, your support of this CO₂ sequestration project does not qualify as official offsetting of unavoidable emissions. Nonetheless, it is still an extremely valuable and additional commitment to the region. In line with the Clean Development Mechanism from the Kyoto Protocol, recognised offsets can still only be obtained by supporting carbon offset projects.
