Climate strategy & accounting

Corporate Carbon Footprint (CCF)
The CO2e-Footprint for your company

We base the accounting of your greenhouse gas emissions on the methodology of the internationally recognized Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHGP). In doing so, we take into account your company’s specific circumstances—from its size and available resources to your level of ambition—and offer tailored, methodologically consistent implementation options. This way, your corporate carbon footprint becomes the starting point for an effective climate strategy.

Your advantages
at a glance

    1. Transparency on emissions: You’ll receive a comprehensive overview of your greenhouse gas emissions across the entire value chain. By analyzing the key drivers of emissions, you can identify specific opportunities for reduction and cost optimization.
    2. Regulatory compliance: A CO2e footprint provides the foundation for meeting current and future regulatory requirements, such as CSRD and ESRS. It reduces risks and provides verifiable, interoperable data.
    3. Competitive advantages & improved access to capital: A CO₂e footprint strengthens a company’s position in tenders and supply chains, improves ESG ratings, and facilitates access to loans, grant programs, and investors.
    4. Effective Communication: Use reliable data to credibly communicate your company’s emissions to stakeholders such as investors and customers.

Your path to a
successful CCF

Step 1

Kick-off & goal definition

We begin by clarifying your expectations and goals regarding CCF accounting. You will receive an introduction to the CCF methodology in accordance with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and the data collection process. Depending on the chosen methodology, we will then conduct the Scope 3 screening together. In doing so, we will analyze which Scope 3 categories are material for the inventory and which categories require a particular focus on detailed data collection.

Step 2

Data collection

During the internal data collection process for calculating your CCF, we provide targeted support with data gathering and quality assurance.

Step 3

Accounting

Once the data has been collected, we calculate your individual greenhouse gas footprint, including a detailed analysis of emission sources according to Scope 1, 2, and 3. The data is analyzed and converted into CO₂ equivalents in accordance with internationally recognized standards and using emission factors from recognized databases.

Step 4

Results & outlook

Finally, we will present the results and identify your company’s largest sources of emissions. Based on this, we will propose general reduction measures and discuss further steps for developing your climate strategy.

Your options when creating a CCF

CCF Accounting for Small Businesses

Recommended for: Small businesses with up to 50 employees and a single location, or companies looking for an easy way to get started with accounting.

Our accounting methodology for small businesses focuses on the key operational emission drivers within your company. This keeps the administrative and financial burden on your business to a minimum. Data collection is done independently using our data entry form. The results provide initial insights into the emission drivers within your company.

Basic CCF based on the GHGP

Recommended for: Small and medium-sized businesses with one or more locations that wish to gain an overview of their operational emissions (Scope 1, Scope 2, and selected Scope 3 categories).

The Basic CCF is based on the GHGP methodology and focuses on the key operational categories. This significantly reduces the effort required for data collection. Nevertheless, this approach yields insightful results, broken down by scope, which can be used to inform further climate strategy development and decision-making. Through personal interaction with a sustainability consultant from Fokus Zukunft, you will receive support and guidance throughout the data collection process.

GHGP-compliant CCF

Recommended for: Medium and large companies with one or more locations that require a detailed and comprehensive analysis of their corporate CO2e emissions for their climate strategy.

Our GUTcert-validated accounting methodology enables comprehensive and detailed accounting of all company-related emissions. We tailor our approach to your specific business needs and conduct a preliminary analysis of key emission categories using a Scope 3 screening. We provide guidance and support throughout the data collection process. Accounting is performed in accordance with GHGP and provides detailed and reliable results on CO2e emissions, which are necessary as a basis for developing a climate strategy.

Validation of our accounting methodology by GUTcert

Our corporate carbon footprint calculation tool, which includes Scope 3 materiality screening, has once again been successfully validated by the accredited certification body GUTcert GmbH.

This validation confirms compliance with the high standards of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol—for our customers, this means a transparent and reliable solution for their greenhouse gas reporting.

Frequently asked questions,
that we answer

CO₂e (carbon dioxide equivalents) is a unit of measurement that converts the greenhouse effect of various greenhouse gases into a standardized value. In addition to carbon dioxide (CO₂), other gases such as methane (CH₄) and nitrous oxide (N₂O) also contribute to climate change—with a significantly greater impact. CO₂e emissions make it possible to compare the overall climate impact of a product, process, or company and to derive targeted reduction measures.

  • The Corporate Carbon Footprint (CCF) takes into account a company’s total CO₂e or greenhouse gas emissions.
  • The Product Carbon Footprint (PCF), on the other hand, calculates the emissions of a single product, product group, or product line over its entire life cycle.

  • The GHGP-compliant CCF includes a detailed accounting of Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, including a comprehensive Scope 3 screening. In this process, we analyze which Scope 3 categories are material to the report and which categories require a particular focus on detailed data collection. Compliance with the GHGP has been validated by GUTcert.
  • The Basic CCF, based on the GHGP, is specifically tailored to the resources and needs of small and medium-sized enterprises. Here, only selected, operationally related Scope 3 categories that are particularly relevant to the emissions inventory are considered. This reduces the data collection effort while still enabling a practical and well-founded CO₂ inventory and helping to identify efficient reduction measures.
  • The CCF for small businesses considers only the key, operationally driven emission drivers in your company. Due to its low complexity, our consulting effort—and thus the costs for you—can be kept as low as possible. Of course, smaller companies can also create a complete CCF or adapt the accounting methodology over the years.

The calculation is performed in accordance with the GHG Protocol and includes direct emissions (Scope 1), indirect energy-related emissions (Scope 2), and other upstream and downstream indirect emissions along the value chain (Scope 3).

When conducting greenhouse gas accounting, the necessary data is not always immediately available or of sufficient quality. Therefore, where necessary, we use well-founded assumptions and plausible projections to ensure that we can still produce a reliable, practical, and meaningful assessment. At the same time, we help you systematically collect relevant data step by step and build a more precise data foundation over the long term.

Yes, under certain conditions, you can apply for a government grant for the CCF through the BAFA program “Funding for Management Consulting Services for SMEs.” Applications can be submitted until December 31, 2026.
