Success story
Fokus Zukunft developed a tailored sustainability e-learning course for a public-sector financial institution in the Rhine-Main region. The aim was to create a shared understanding of sustainability across the workforce and show how it connects to employees’ day-to-day work. To achieve this, Fokus Zukunft designed a compact training format with a clear storyline, accessible language and practical examples. From concept and instructional design to production and post-production, the entire e-learning course was delivered from a single source.
Sustainability is a broad, cross-cutting topic that affects many areas of a financial institution. At the same time, employees bring different levels of knowledge and perspectives depending on their role, professional background and previous experience with the topic.
For a financial institution in the Rhine-Main region, the challenge was therefore to raise awareness of sustainability among both existing and new employees and establish a shared basic understanding. The aim was not simply to convey theoretical knowledge, but to spark interest, provide orientation and position sustainability as a relevant topic that can be actively shaped within the organisation. The institution was looking for a format that could reduce the complexity of sustainability to its key aspects and communicate them in a clear, engaging and learning-oriented way. The training also needed to put global and European developments into context, link sustainability to the organisation and employees’ day-to-day work, and highlight the role employees can play in the sustainable transformation.
The objective was to build a common foundation of knowledge and enable employees to see sustainability not only as an abstract concept or regulatory requirement, but as a shared responsibility to which different parts of the organisation – and every individual – can make a practical contribution.
Fokus Zukunft developed a tailored e-learning course on sustainability for the financial institution. Designed specifically for internal use, the video combines solid subject-matter expertise with clear, engaging and accessible communication.
The first step was to structure the relevant topics and focus on the key content. This included the fundamentals of sustainability and ESG, global and European climate-related challenges, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, as well as possible solutions and practical courses of action.
Based on this, Fokus Zukunft developed an instructional concept with a clear storyline. The tone, visual language and level of detail were carefully tailored to ensure that the video would be relevant and easy to understand both for employees with some prior knowledge of sustainability and for those with little or no previous experience.
Complex topics were explained clearly and brought to life through practical, everyday examples. This not only helped convey key knowledge, but also made the connection between overarching sustainability goals, the organisational context and employees’ individual scope for action more tangible.
Fokus Zukunft managed the entire development process from a single source – from concept development and content creation to storyline, tone of voice and visual language, as well as production and post-production of the e-learning course.
With the sustainability e-learning course, the financial institution now has a high-quality, reusable learning format that provides employees with a clear and practical introduction to key sustainability topics.
The clear storyline provides structure and makes a complex subject easier to understand. By combining expert knowledge, practical examples and concrete courses of action, the e-learning course goes beyond explaining sustainability in theory and connects it directly to employees’ day-to-day work.
It also helps align different levels of prior knowledge and creates a shared foundation for further engagement with sustainability. Employees can better understand their own role in the sustainable transformation and identify how they can contribute through their individual responsibilities.
A key benefit is the format’s long-term usability. The video can be used both to raise awareness among existing employees and to introduce new colleagues to the topic. This gives the financial institution a consistent internal training tool that builds knowledge, encourages engagement and supports the development of a shared understanding of sustainability.
“As a Sustainability Manager, it was important to me to use the e-learning course to create a shared starting point and make sustainability clear and tangible for our employees. Sustainability affects us on many levels and can only be developed and embedded successfully if we approach it together across the organisation. From my perspective, Fokus Zukunft’s e-learning course provides a very strong foundation. It combines sound expertise with clear, accessible communication and practical links to employees’ day-to-day work. We were particularly pleased with the feedback from employees, who found the video authentic, the content easy to understand and the tone well balanced between the necessary sense of urgency and a motivating approach. Their responses show that the course succeeded in presenting sustainability not only as a regulatory topic, but as a shared responsibility to which everyone can contribute.”
